Freeborn, a
novel
Synopsis
(Galatians
4:22-23) For it is written
that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free
woman. His son by the slave woman was
born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the
result of a divine promise.
Freeborn is the first novel in the suspended-release
novel series The Decks and the Road. The book is an extension of the already
established foundation by the author NaTisha R. Williams, of characterizing ‘the
decks of our lives’ and ‘the roads of our lives’. Freeborn
is a pull from the deck. In this
offering, Williams reveals the family origins of some of her most beloved
characters while delivering a soulful, healing, and compelling story.
The novel is set to begin after Camie
has returned to Miami, and Kayla has begun a new career. The cast of Freeborn
begins the establishment of the main characters that will reappear throughout The Decks and the Road novel
series. The book gives the reader a look back and
into the future all at once, using a series of dislodged chapters. Come along as the freeborn emerges from the slave-born through covenants and the chosen.
Freeborn strikes a delicate balance between the use of
the man and the woman in the building of family legacies. The book also seeks to show some of the misunderstandings
that keep those legacies from moving forward.
The author follows suit in continuing to expose emotional grievances in
the lives of her characters. Expect to
be moved.
