Chapter 35- The Shepherd's Way
Dr. Kat Shepherd- The final piece has just fallen into place. Many random actions had taken place to get me here, and in the process my family had expanded. Usually when putting a puzzle together, you start with the corners, but this one had begun in the middle. Now I could see that I was standing at the center of it all, and I wasn't alone. In a state of ecstasy and focus, I had given up my voice naming the life I was carrying, and in a moment of euphoria I'd awaken months later, to a gentle whisper in my ear, "William".
There's a scripture that says we should test every prophecy, and this one had been put to the test. First Monica, then Kaylin, and finally Tayeton. Yes, William it is.
I'm carrying him but not conspicuously. It's only a little bump still, and I look just as neat in my champagne colored dress as any of the other ladies. I'd been as professional as I possibly could be, but I couldn't turn down the opportunity to see them off. How I got in the wedding party, that was all Tayeton and my dad's fault. Anyway, like I said, the final piece just fell into place, and the names Burrows and Wells came crashing together in a magnificent way.
We've just left the church and I've got my sign. It's one I will never forget... "Love Calls" and it reminds me to step aside and wait for him. He jumps a couple steps, and meets me. He's not carrying a sign, but he takes hold of mine, and hugs me at the waist. When we make it into the building, the two grooms are getting a photo together. I take Tayeton by the hand and we crash the photo, sign and all. Next it's just us three, and then the four of us, then six, then seven. There are many photographers and lots of group pictures being taken. I'm introduced to Mr. Green for the first time, but the moment he begins to speak, I know him from the journals. Speaking of the journals. Well, let the guys inform you.
Tayeton- It's the day after the wedding. We're all at The Shepherds. Not everyone from the wedding but Kat and her extended family and my extended family. The Shepherds from Tampa, Monica, and the Wells. Yeah, it's certainly a small world, and Kat seems to have an inside look on the whole thing. It was her idea to publish the journals. We've just convinced Mr. Wells to do it, and there's no doubt it's going to be a hit. As for life at Simpleton and Fisher, it's coming along. There's bigger shoes to fill now. I'd presented my birth certificate to Mr. Palmer as I now refer to him, and he'd given me the full run down. My uncle who Walter had passed off as my father was older, and had never been a part of the business. He had died mysteriously, four years before I came on board, and my grandfather just eight years ago. The Fishers had always been in charge of marketing and acquisitions. As a result, I was now the Head of Marketing. Why Walter had chosen to keep me in the dark, was still not clear to me, but Mr. Palmer seemed trust worthy, and I was beginning to love the business of publishing. There was an added bonus to all the hard work I was doing, and I had Kayla to thank for it. It had all taken place between the time she had unexpectedly asked if she could have a private moment with Mr. Palmer, and the time the door opened back up.
My blog is also back up, and there are more readers now than before. I've made some changes, and it's meant that more people know about my mother's work than ever before. It also put me in business with Sam Simpleton, and for every reprint of "Thinking OutLoud" by Nora Rivers, I'll be expecting his check. It was an interesting turn of events. All of it. And I still believe it all started the morning of her funeral with a simple prayer.
When dinner was over, we shared the news with the family. Not all of it, but the good news.
